UN mission chief calls for calm amid rising tensions in Haiti
PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti -- Amid rising tensions in Port-au-Prince and other key Haitian cities in the wake of last month’s delayed elections, the top United Nations official in the country has called on all sides to respect the right to free expression while also avoiding any recourse to violence.
WASHINGTON, USA -- Haiti's electricity sector stands at a crossroads. Haiti depends on imported petroleum for 85% of its electricity generation, diverting seven percent of its annual gross domestic product to importing fuel. Still, only 25% of the Haitian population has regular access to electricity.
